Two separate incidences of construction site mishaps in Madison endangered the lives of two workers, who are now recuperating in two different hospitals in the area.
At around 10 a.m. of February 15, a man fell a distance of 5 feet onto a roofing area at a construction site on 334 West Doty Street, which is the location of a new Madison Public Library.
The Madison Fire Department came to the rescue of the victim and took him to Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was working for Stevens Construction Corp.
Meanwhile, another construction worker found himself dangling in the air after slipping off a beam at the Memorial Union construction site along 800 Langdon Street at 11:30 a.m. His safety harness saved him from otherwise falling to the ground.
His coworkers at The Boldt Company lowered him to the ground then took him to the UW Hospital.
It is the responsibility of construction companies and site managers to ensure these sites are safe, otherwise they put innocent workers and passersby in danger.
