A plane crashed into Lake Winnebago on Monday, and two people, including a woman from Wisconsin and a man from Illinois were killed.
According to reports, the man was flying a 1940 Piper Club plane with the woman as his passenger. The two were leaving Oshkosh, where they had attended the AirVenture event. About half-way between Oshkosh and Fond du Lac, the plane suddenly went down into Lake Winnebago. Boaters attempted to rescue the two people, however, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the cause of the crash, along with help from the FAA and the Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department. It has been speculated that it may take over a month to learn the cause of the crash.
