A nursing home in California was recently indicted on charges of abuse and neglect after one of its residents killed himself.
The 34-year-old man was admitted to the home in 2009. The home's employees had been told that the man had a history of mental illness and had attempted suicide several times, however, the employees failed to adequately look after the man during his stay at the home. The man attempted suicide three times during his month-long stay at the facility, with the last attempt being successful.
During a hearing, state officials presented a grand jury with evidence that the nursing home's employees had been neglectful and abusive in their care of the man. The grand jury indicted the nursing home, and the case will be heading to trial sometime in the next few months.
