A Georgia nursing home has been ordered to pay the family of a fifty-one-year-old Georgia woman, who died while staying at the nursing home, $9.5 million dollars as the result of a negligence lawsuit filed against the home.
The woman had cerebral palsy and was checked into the home by her family. Once in the home, she developed multiple bed sores that were left untreated and, ultimately, led to an infection in her bloodstream that caused her death.
The family was awarded the money for wrongful death, as well as expensive funeral costs.
This case is a positive step towards providing the elderly and disabled with a safer environment in which to live.
