32 year-old Jim “The Real Deal” McNeil died on Sunday morning, succumbing to his injuries following a crash at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. McNeil was performing a practice jump when, according to the tour manager, his motorcycle experienced mechanical failure.

He was unable to make the landing and suffered severe blunt force trauma to his neck and chest. The stunt rider had been apart of the Boost Mobile FMX professional team and competed in five X-Games in his career.

Deaths are very rare in the professional motocross world, but all riders are aware of the dangers. The tour manager said this is the first death the tour has seen in fourteen years.
