Adopt-A-Highway volunteer killed in pedestrian accident

by Administrator 30. July 2010 05:36

The Hobart-Lawrence Police Department reported that a 70-year old Adopt-A-Highway volunteer was killed in a tragic pedestrian accident while picking up trash along Highway 41 last week.

31-year old Lucia Torres-Bisarraga was traveling southbound on Highway 41 when she drifted out of her lane, into the shoulder, and struck Adopt-A-Highway volunteer Cornelius "Corky" Van Handel.  Bisarraga told police officers that she lost control after a car swerved in front of her, however no witnesses reported seeing another car.

Torres-Bisarraga is being charged with driving without a license resulting in death and failure to control her vehicle.

Our utmost sympathies go out to Van Handel's family and friends during this difficult time.

High speed pursuit ends in wreck

by Administrator 19. May 2010 02:20

Police in Marshfield, Wis., arrested two men after a high speed chase that led the suspects through Portage County. The suspects crashed their vehicle near the County Road E and M intersection, located west of Stevens Point. After crashing, the suspects ran into the nearby woods, where two of them were apprehended by police. The search continues to find the final suspect.

The chase began following a report of retail theft filed Tuesday morning. Police arrived to investigate the Marshfield Wal-Mart where the claim was made. At that point, when the police had identified the suspects, the driver of the suspects' vehicle began to flee.

A chase like this often does not leave such a clean trail of destruction. However, it does not take a high speed chase to cause significant damage or injury, as commonplace traffic violations can have widespread consequences. If you or someone you love has been injured because of someone else's reckless driving, you may be entitled to legal recourse. Deer Pose Major Hazard to Wisconsin Drivers

by Administrator 26. October 2009 05:29

Deer crossing the road pose a major hazard to many Wisconsin drivers.  Deer accidents are common when a car has to travel at a relatively high rate of speed in an area surrounded by woods.  Hitting a deer while travelling fast can cause significant damage to the vehicle and cause a serious accident to follow which could injure individuals in the vehicle.

These types of accidents can occur at anytime throughout the day,  however the lower visibility at night causes most of the accidents to occur in the late evening or at night. It takes a careful and attentive driver to help prevent an accident like this from occurring.

Distracted Driver Rear Ends Vehicle

by Administrator 10. August 2009 04:43

Early Monday morning, an accident took place in which a distracted driver rear ended the back of another vehicle.  The driver was distracted because the man was using a cellular phone to send text messages.

The man ran into the back of another vehicle at a high rate of speed causing the accident.  The individual in the other vehicle suffered injuries from the collision and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.  The man did not appear to have any injuries from the accident.

This accident is a good example of the dangers of text messaging others while driving.

Two In Intesive Car Following Accident

by Administrator 29. July 2009 00:30

Two individuals remain in intensive care after an accident in Burlington.

The accident involved a 22 year-old man and a 72 year-old woman. Both individuals were seriously injured in the accident on Sunday.

Little details are currently available about the accident, as officials have not been able to effectively interview the drivers because of their injuries.

More information should be released at a later date,  however it is believed that one of the vehicles crossed the center lane causing the head-on collision to occur.  Police have not yet said which vehicle was at fault.
