Survey shows injured claimants have difficulty winning against corporations

Posted under Personal Injury

A study released on May 15 by policy research organization Center for American Progress titled “No Justice for the Injured,” which compiled data from 1,499 cases from six state Supreme Courts between 2002 and 2012, showed that courts are shown to be more favorable towards big corporations rather than individual personal injury complainants 70 percent of the time.

The reason the study gave for this growing trend is that the companies—specifically in Texas, Alabama, Ohio, Michigan, Mississippi, Wisconsin, and Louisiana—have been working over the past decade to make sure that they influence the enactment of laws that require limiting the allowable damage claim in personal injury lawsuits, convincing the general public that there are many lawsuits which do not file legitimate claims.

The move has decidedly limited the American citizen’s capacity to claim just compensation for injustices done to them.
