Man injured by demolition debris

Debris from Orlando’s Amway Arena demolition hit and injured a 33 year-old bystander who was two blocks away from the implosion site. According to the police report, the man was hit on his lower shin by an eight-inch piece of reinforcing bar.

He was transported by ambulance to the hospital with a broken fibula and underwent surgery earlier this week. No one else was injured by the flying debris. A friend who was with the victim at the time remembers getting pelted by concrete seconds before the reinforcing bar came flying towards him.

The man has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. All of his medical expenses have been paid for by the president of the demolition company.
