OSHA fines milk plant for explosion

Posted on Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 at 9:18 pm

Fond du Lac’s Milk Specialties Co. plant has been fined $72,000 by the Occupational Safety and Heath Administration after a dust explosion occurred last August.

Heavy smoke filled the five-story facility after a fire and explosion occurred in a machine. Firefighters put out a small fire in a machine and duct work on the second floor. OSHA found three safety violations, including a willful violation for dust combustible hazards.

However, Milk Specialties denies an explosion ever occurred. It claims a small piece of milk product began to smoulder and produced the smoke, not a fire or explosion. The company, which converts liquid whey products into dried whey powder, has 15 days to either consent or appeal the citations.

Registered sex offender arrested again

Vernon County police officers arrested a registered sex offender for the second time after he violated his parole.

The 26 year-old man admitted to his parole officer that he had violated the GPS boundaries set on his GPS bracelet he is forced to wear after being released from prison.

In 2007, he pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree sexual assault of a child as part of a plea deal and served three years in prison. Authorities originally charged him with five counts stemming from several incidents over a three-year period involving children as young as nine years-old.

Anchor recovering from dog attack

Posted on Friday, February 10th, 2012 at 9:09 pm

A Denver news anchor is recovering after a dog attacked her on her show.

The woman had an Argentine mastiff, its owner, and a firefighter who had rescued the dog from a frozen lake on her show. She is seen petting the dog throughout the segment, but things went terribly wrong when she bent down to get closer. The dog lunged and bit her on the face live on the air.

She had reconstructive surgery that night, which surgeons say was successful. She is expected to return in a few weeks. The dog is currently quarantined for ten days as a precaution.

Pharmaceutical mix up could lead to unintentional pregnancy

Posted on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 at 7:47 pm

A birth control mix up could cause women taking hormonal contraceptives to become unintentionally pregnant.

Pfizer is recalling nearly a million birth control pills of the brand Lo/Ovral-38 and its generic forms norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol. It is common for placebos to be packaged with the contraceptives, except in this case an error in the sequence could cause the contraceptives to become significantly weakened, increasing the risk of pregnancy.

Women who believe they have a defective birth control package are strongly encouraged to start using non-hormonal contraceptives immediately. The placebo mix up is not believed to cause harm to the baby should a pregnancy occur.

If you have been the victim of a defective pharmaceutical product or a pharmaceutical error, contact the Stevens Point defective pharmaceutical product lawyers of Habush Habush & Rottier, S.C. by calling 800-242-2874.
