Nearly 250,000 lunch boxes recalled

Posted on Thursday, January 26th, 2012 at 7:45 pm

California Innovations, Inc. is recalling about 248,000 Ci Sport expandable and insulated lunch box sets because chemicals could leak out of the freezer gel pack.

The three piece lunch box set came with an aluminum bottle and a freezer gel pack, which contains the chemicals diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the company received two complaints of dogs eating and ingesting the gel packs. One dog died while the other was able to recover.

The lunch boxes were sold between May 2007 and September 2008 at Costco, Cost U Less, Leon Korol. Consumers can return the lunch boxes to Costco for a full refund.

New charges filed against registered sex offender

Posted on Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 at 8:04 pm

A 31 year-old sex offender from Superior is facing new felony charges after authorities were notified that the man had been volunteering to work with young children.

The man was convicted in 1998 of second degree sexual assault and must remain on the sex offender registry for life. He has been charged for failing to update his registry information and having a Facebook account under an alias, along with working around children.

A local pastor notified police after seeing a story about the man in the newspaper. He told law enforcement the man would come to the church with his girlfriend and volunteer to watch young children while their parents looked for free clothes at the church’s clothes closet.

IKEA recalls plastic high chairs

Posted on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 at 5:44 pm

IKEA announced last week that it will be recalling its “Antilop” plastic high chairs after it received eight complaints worldwide of children falling out of the chair. Three of the children suffered minor injuries.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the belt restraint on the high chair can become unclasped, creating a falling hazard. 169,000 were sold in North America and over 1.2 million in Europe. The “Antilop” chair was sold in the United States from August 2006 to January 2010.

The chair came in red, blue, and white plastic seats with four detachable silver legs. If you have purchased the “Antilop” high chair, stop using it immediately and contact the nearest IKEA location about receiving a free belt restraint replacement.

Slip and fall lawsuit wins $7.5 million verdict

Posted on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012 at 8:54 pm

A slip and fall accident in a southern California Starbucks has resulted in a $7.5 million jury verdict against the corporation.

In 2008, a man fell in a Starbucks where a store manager was mopping. He hit his head on the ground and complications from his head injury have prohibited him from returning to occupation as a chiropractor. A San Diego Superior Court jury found Starbucks Coffee Co. negligent in failing to maintain its property.

The verdict will compensation the man’s wife $1 million for loss of consortium and the rest will be for his lost income, medical expenses, and loss of enjoyment of life.
