Teenager killed while crossing the street

Posted on Tuesday, November 29th, 2011 at 6:39 pm

An 18 year-old Sheboygan man was killed this morning in a pedestrian accident while walking to school.

The teenager was crossing North Sixth Street and New York Avenue when a leaf collection truck owned by the Department of Public Works hit him. Paramedics say he was unresponsive upon their arrival and his death was confirmed by Sheboygan police less than an hour later. He died of head and internal injuries.

No objects or vehicles are suspected to have been on the street that could have obstructed the driver’s or teenager’s view. State troopers and Sheboygan police will reconstruct the accident.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the young victim.

Physician sentenced on sexual assault charges

Posted on Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

A 49 year-old Marshfield doctor will serve a five year prison sentence, as well as ten years extended supervision, after he plead guilty to sexually assaulting his female patients. The man worked as a gastroenterologist and inappropriately touched women who were under anesthesia.

Prosecutors urged the judge to give him twenty-five years behind bars. However, the judge believes that the man showed true remorse and had taken efforts to get help. He said the doctor is not a danger to the community, but needed to be punished.

The man surrendered his medical license when clinic officials approached him after a female patient complained.

32 year-old Jim “The Real Deal” McNeil died on Sunday morning, succumbing to his injuries following a crash at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. McNeil was performing a practice jump when, according to the tour manager, his motorcycle experienced mechanical failure.

He was unable to make the landing and suffered severe blunt force trauma to his neck and chest. The stunt rider had been apart of the Boost Mobile FMX professional team and competed in five X-Games in his career.

Deaths are very rare in the professional motocross world, but all riders are aware of the dangers. The tour manager said this is the first death the tour has seen in fourteen years.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.

Woman wins settlement in anthrax attacks

Posted on Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 at 4:47 pm

A settlement between the widow of a 63 year-old man who died in the 2001 anthrax attacks and the United States government has been reached. While the details of the settlement have not been released, the woman was initially demanding $50 million when she filed the wrongful death lawsuit in 2003.

She claims the government is to blame for her husband’s death because it failed to safely secure the disease at a military laboratory. An Army scientist was later accused of being behind the deadly anthrax attack. Five people died and seventeen fell ill when anthrax-laced letters were sent to two senators and a handful of major media outlets.

He was a photography editor and was the first to die after being exposed to the disease when a letter was sent to the publishing office of the National Enquirer.
