Accident at railroad tracks injures one
Posted under Uncategorized
A 76-year-old Stevens Point man was recently injured when his van was struck by a train.
The incident occurred at the railroad tracks crossing Minnesota avenue, around 11 a.m. According to official police reports, the driver failed to stop at a stop sign near the tracks. When he saw the train approaching, he slammed on his brakes, which caused the vehicle to slide on some ice and come to a stop on top of the railroad tracks.
The train, moving at only about 10-miles per hour, collided with the van and pushed it almost 200 feet down the tracks before it was able to come to a stop. The man was taken to St. Michael's hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
