A semi trailer rear-ended a truck in Eau Pleine on Thursday, starting a four-vehicle accident. The semi hit two other vehicles, causing one to roll over, before coming to a stop on its side in a ditch. Two people were taken to Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield with minor injuries, authorities said. Six people were involved in the accident.

No citations or arrests occurred at the scene, police said. Later, the semi's 27-year-old driver was cited for inattentive driving and following too close.

The deadline is approaching for Wisconsin commercial-residential buildings with fuel-burning appliances to install carbon monoxide alarms. This includes dorms, jails, apartment buildings and motels with fuel-burning appliances like hot water heaters, dryers and furnaces. The Stevens Point fire department plans to enforce the law, but will give owners time to install the devices.

A Wisconsin group hopes to make trails safer by calling for safer habits. So far, 12 people have died on snowmobiles this winter in Wisconsin. The state's average yearly death doll for snowmobile accidents is 27 people. Consumption of alcohol on the trail causes many of these. Those who consume alcohol and drive recreational vehicles become dangerous to those around them as well.

The state currently pushes a campaign to advise those involved in winter sports to drink wisely or not at all. This has not changed much, however, and the group is pushing for more effective ways to restrict alcohol consumption on the trail.  They call for more standardized and regulated penalties for those caught drinking while operating recreational vehicles. Currently, there is no legal penalty for drinking while driving a snowmobile or other vehicle. The group hopes to reduce the amount of fatal snowmobile accidents.
